I do think that politics is the last place where you'll find people with objective opinions though.

Sure an objective opinion is a real thing, it's when you have an opinion about an objective. Any other opinion is by definition of being an opinion subjective.

Formally you can speak of an objective opinion in the case of, say, a doctor making a diagnose. When there is no absolute proof of his diagnose being correct, but the doctor making the diagnose based on the facts he knows then you could speak of an objective opinion. There is no (emotional) bias involved in the doctor making the diagnose, yet it's not a definite cold hard fact either.

In normal conversations, people speak of "the doctor's opinion" as well. The doc's opinion in this case is certainly something different than whether or not the color red looks good on you.
