New custom maps

Post by AKUTA »

here's a new map if anyone is interested in trying something new, more info about it at my website and the readme file. More maps I made on the website other than just this one. Feel free to check them out as well.

I like your stuff, but your "preview-pictures" are very dark, so its hard to figure out whats going on.

I had a look at Powerstroke. I've always liked green maps, and the screenshot looked interesting.
This may sound negative, particularly as it seems level design for Q3 is at an all time low, but I'd say the level is a bit more of a beta than a finished level.
There are a ton of great details, and some very nice shader effects, but none of these really add anything. It's almost like a 'hey, I've built some really cool structure, so I'll leave it here'.
The design/layout is mostly axial and rather blocky in terms of modern level design.
You obviously have ability and imagination and I'd love to see this map really worked on. All those ideas you have good be employed to really pull off a great atmosphere and aesthetic. At the moment I can't really tell what look or theme you're going for. Alien Base? Then really make it an Alien Base. Toxic filled warehouse, then really make it that.
There are some brilliant designers out there who can really pull of a believable environment and balanced gameplay. Just about all of Tom Perryman's stuff, Hipshot, recently Flipout published a couple of astonishingly good maps. There are a lot of really great levels, polished to perfection, that pull off their themes so well.
Have a look, and then see if you can workout some ideas about how to move forward.

Maybe he wanted to make it a hybrid of the two, dONKEY. I can't really imagine how that would be like, though. Oh well, it's AKUTA's imagination anyway.
