Interesting stuff. Must be pretty hard to be there as journalist without a gun to protect yourself and relying on others. Pretty sure ISIS wouldn't think twice about taking out a reporter/aid worker.

This is an incredibly bitter fight, probably the most vicious urban combat the world has seen in decades. These guys are not being supported and resupplied like they should be - especially those poor SWAT fuckers apparently.

My uncle used to do shit similiar to that, the way he described it anyway (dossing in safe houses / riding in convoys), he would escort high value cargo. He done 2 tours, 6 months a piece and lost his best mate of 20+ years to an iED, he has dash cam footage of it somewhere, its fucking brutal. He came back completely fucked up, thinking he could speak to ghosts n shit, Dereck Acorah style. Thought his dead mates dog was his mates incarnation. Freaked a lot of people out, lost his wife. Big shame cos he is a cracking geezer, done loads for me, hes doing a lot better now. Always seemed the kinda guy that wouldnt lose his marrbles too.

lol, Blackwater/Academi and Mossad are far greater threats to honest journalists than ISIS could ever be.

Completely horrific. I find it unfathomable how people can do something like this to each other.
Why don't those civilians get the fuck out of there though?

Aye it's fascinating, reminds me of what i've read about Stalingrad.

Neither side appear to allow civilians to get out; IS because they'd lose a decisive edge in battle, the security forces because of distrust (mainly, it seems) and the immense problems several hundred thousand internally displaced persons would create.

pretty brutal, and no easy answers :(

let's also just take a moment to remind ourselves that this ugly shitfest is a result of the 2003 invasion of Iraq, and before that the carving up of the ME by colonial powers in such a way as to practically guarantee future conflict
