The shutters are up and we are stocked with provisions. There's just a few more things to put away...

Usually hurricanes go up one of the two coast or across the state. Giving you multiple directions to travel. This hurricane is tracking straight up the center of the state, so the only way to run is north. Our only hope now is it pushes east or west of us. Because the interstates are jammed and there's really nowhere to run. It's so hard to predict where exactly this storm is going to be and how bad it's going to be when it gets here. Last night it seemed ok, today not so much. This could still change dramatically for the better or worse. We shall see...

The generator is actually sitting in a transfer hub in Georgia. Upon purchase it had a projected delivery date of 9/8. UPS is delivering tomorrow. So it had a chance of getting here if it had shipped sooner. It's new scheduled delivery date is 9/15. We could still be out of power by then. So it would be a welcomed relief, as it's the same size as my old generator and able to run the whole house.

Good luck gwamps, I hope it misses you and the rest of Florida.

Have you installed LEDs on the underside of your house just in case though? :clownboat:

If they would steer this storm away I'd install them right now.

How long does it usually take for a storm like that to actually pass by?

Also, how does your employer deal with this? The preparations and actual storm prevent you from working. Is that coming out of your own pocket or do you get storm-leave or something?

Storms move at different speeds. This one is moving pretty quickly. However, it all depends on where it makes landfall and how far away you are from the impact zone. This one is making landfall near Miami late Saturday / early Sunday and should be near my home (140 miles away) Sunday evening.

I'm a salary employee, so I'll get paid for all missed days. Unfortunately, hourly employees do not get paid for those days. Again, every storm is different. We follow the storm and make decisions based on potential problems and local advisories. With this storm we've decided that our company will be closed Friday and Monday. Although we do have plans to look at where the storm is on Sunday and adjust our plans accordingly if necessary.
