Quake 3 Legends of Q3W

Post by xer0s »

Who were the top players of Quake 3 that frequented the Q3W forums back in the day? I specifically remember Julios and Duhard giving me a beating on a regular basis.

Just a little nostalgia for ya. I’m getting old. They say old people like what they can remember...

Agreed. But I just assumed we would all keep quiet about that, as to not boost his already massive ego...

He was.

He also programmed some incredibly accurate aim bots. But his skills without them were legit...

Lol at raw being anything other than average.

Donny was a good player too. I was ok at instagib for a HPB.

Brisk was a massive big head. Saturn was OK as well. Most of the BDI were good. RnR wins tho.

Don Carlos was collecting q3 videos here. There's some q3w stuff there as well.

As long as we're on a nostalgia run...

Maybe not everyone's scene, but I do enjoy the old "p0wned" videos made on Euroctf servers (OSPctf, mostly pickup matches or the good old XS4ALL public servers hosted in NL).
Nice editing, decent music choice and some quality skills on show.
I'm not sure if any Q3Wers outside of bdi buds played there, but the games were epic - proper high standard of players, the best CTF maps in Q3 and an amazing ctf pickup community on IRC while it lasted!

players from gzd, oMg, 2eX, DX!, ft, uc, lsr, CAT, BDI, IQS, various free agents/aliasing bastards

(skip the intro, the first 2mins....)
head to 8:35 for one of the greatest flag-chase shots ever

As much of a fuckhead as dutard was, he was pretty killer at vanilla 1-on-1. I played him once or twice and got perhaps all of 1 or 2 frags across both games :olo: Granted I played mostly CTF or FFA. 1-on-1 is a different ball game.

I remember Azer, julios, and inolen being among the best. Azer especially because I seem to recall he was a pretty HPB but still doled it out. Doomer was pretty good as well. I remember banging around in CA with Donny and Memph quite a bit. Been a long while!

Duhard knew how to control the map, he was a master at it.

Oh yeah. Half the time I respawned, he had already launched 4 or 5 rockets at the closest prospective spawn points and I was met at respawn with an instant rocket to the face. :olo:
