no coronavirus thread ?
Re: no coronavirus thread ?
Our scale is per county: 50 new infected per 100.000 populace per week. ALARM!
Some rare counties have hit it, most not. It's up to the county. Some are faster and harder some not so.

Re: no coronavirus thread ?
Had an argument with some guy at work. We have our office in a building that's shared with a bunch of other companies. Since coronavirus, the rule has been that only 2 people can be in an elevator simultaneously so you can keep your distance.
I was standing in the elevator with a colleague when it stopped at some in-between floor. The doors opened and this guy stood there going like "ok I'll take the next one". Doors close again, but right before they were fully closed, they opened again (someone pushed the elevator button) and another guy (who turned out to be a colleague of the other dude) was standing in front of the elevator opening, kinda shoved me to the side as he stepped into the elevator and muttered "yeah that won't kill us, will it?"
And I was like "what the hell?" so I said "it does kill me so would you please step out of the elevator?" and I stepped into the door opening to keep my distance. He refused to leave, saying these corona measures were nonsense and everyone was hypocrites. At that point my colleague left the elevator entirely. I replied I just wanted him to be a decent human being and respect the rules and our wishes. He then went off on this tangent how he refused to abide by other people's nonsensical rules any longer and how all of it was bullshit and he would not leave the elevator. So I just started at him and said "look man, I'm still waiting" and he answered he was in no hurry so he'd wait. I told him I don't care about whether or not corona is bogus or what he or I thought of the measures taken against it, I just reiterated that I expect a decent human being to be a bit sensitive to the wishes of others and not force himself upon others like that.
At that point, some other lady came around the corner and asked if were going to use that elevator or if she could step in. This moron dude jumped out of the elevator and said she could have it. I asked him why he left the elevator for her to step in but wouldn't leave for me and he answered that she asked nicely and I didn't, which, I have to say, is patently false, but whatever.
At that point my colleague just threw his arms into the air, shouted WHATEVER!, stepped into the elevator, pressed the "close doors button" and we both rode the lift down to our destination.
I was kind of shocked at the rudeness of people such as him, but also makes the American stories about people spitting or punching other people because they're asked to wear a mask all the more relatable.

Re: no coronavirus thread ?
My kids went back to school today. 400 kids plus 400 parents through the school gates in a 10 min window.
We’re going to see a huge jump in cases in two weeks. It’s planned and controlled covid case management to heard immunity.

Re: no coronavirus thread ?
I’ve said it from the beginning, opening schools is the worst thing we can do. People say “Well we need to get our kids back in school. They need education. They need structure. They need normalcy.”
It’s true. They do need education. But keeping them out of school for another 6 months until the vaccine is ready will not set them back. And what’s normalcy? There’s no such thing anymore. And structure? Parents are just sick of being around their little brats 24/7 and want them out of the house. And they’re willing to kill a few people to get a break from the madness...

Let him have the bloody elevator, but just before you let the doors close, hit every single elevator button before exiting. Fucking amateur!Eraser wrote:Had an argument with some guy at work.

Re: no coronavirus thread ?
Yea this is objectively untrue, depending on the grade your kids are in.xer0s wrote: But keeping them out of school for another 6 months until the vaccine is ready will not set them back.
I think our school is handling it pretty well. 3 separate entrances, parents not allowed on school grounds. That disperses the crowds pretty well.
Re: no coronavirus thread ?
You think your kid will become a janitor instead of a doctor because he/she had to wait 6 months to get back into school?
It’s obviously an exaggeration. But what do you realistically feel could happen with a 6 month absence from school? And are those consequences worth killing some people. Because ultimately, more people will die because children are back at school...
