Wales got the dicking as well. Though the ref was a wet wipe for two of the goals and there was no way on earth that was a red card for Harry Wilson.

and waiting around for VAR for FUCKING AGES.
Not keen to see a goal struck off for the sake of one offside toenail

Offside is offside. Simple as that. At least it's fair.
What they should do, however, is adopt the system they use in hockey: each team has a limited number of VAR calls and can use their VAR call whenever they feel the referee made an error.
If the VAR then judges no error was made, you lose your VAR call. If the VAR judges you are right and the ref made an error, the error is corrected and you keep your VAR call.
It means you're not going to see the VAR getting involved willy nilly for every little thing because the teams need to make damn sure they're right before using their VAR call, or you'll lose it.

I like that a lot, it might also stop the defenders calling offside for every almost-marginal effort.

Like you say, darn sure!

They said he was the most well known player in the France squad; must have hurt Pogba and Griezmann to here that.

Also I called the pen miss as he was walking up. He looked devoid of confidence.

my money's on Italy for the big win now

England are flattering to deceive on the easy side of the draw, just like the last WC

it's certainly unusual, but not that implausible under the circumstances (more or less the same team that made the semis in WC2018, didn't concede a goal until the semis, favourable draw at the group stage, strongest team in the knockouts - Germany - weren't firing on all cylinders)

on a related note, none of the group of death (F) teams made it past the RO16. who'd have thought that?
