I think it would depend on the context of the reveal. Let’s say alien life shows up and they offer us advanced knowledge then it could radically change society. We might even get to visit alien planets. However they could also be really secretive and offer us nothing at which point you’d probably get something like doomer said where humans basically fill the gaps with nonsense. I’m certain some governments would even deny their existence to keep their populations in check. Ultimately I have no idea, but it would be the single greatest discovery of human history to date. I imagine that’s how people felt when they discovered the earth was round.

Sounds about right. The sun is flinging shit all over the place all the time, I think the rare part is just having earth line up nicely in the path of destruction. Maybe Musk's nice little Starlink system will spontaneously fail all at once :dts:

And the closest thing we have to an early warning system is the Parker Solar Probe. We need a satellite at a Lagrange Point between Earth and the Sun to monitor for flares so we have at least some time to react. If we can shut down the power grid and whatnot before a flare hits, we can mitigate some of the worst effects it would have on our power infrastructure. But yeah, as it stands, a worst-case-scenario flare could take upwards of a decade to recover from. Talk about a Recession. :olo:
