I had to throw a kid around a bit this year. A fight was about to start outside my door between two sophomores - I stepped between them and started walking one of them backwards, putting my hand on his arm while doing so (i had to de-escalate the situation quickly since there were about 40 people watching and no other adults around at the time.) When I started to walk him back, he tried to fling my hand off his arm and *almost* backhanded me in the face (I had to sway back to avoid getting hit.) Then he tried to run right through me to get to the kid behind me (spouting the usual "I'm gonna fuckin kill you man...I'll fuckin cut you man...wait till we're on the fuckin street man..." toughguy talk). Since he had tried to hit me, and was basically trying to fight his way through me, I figured the safest situation for him and everyone else woudl be for me to gently manuever him across the hallway and against a locker, where I held him pinned with a forearm against the neck/chest until other people arrived. The entire time he was resisting...I'd let go of him for a second, tell him to shut up and relax, and he'd try to push right past me again, so right back up against the locker he'd go.

It was a bit odd, because some students were cheering for me to kick his ass, and I didn't realize that it looked like I pretty much tossed him against the locker about 5 times during this - but it only looked that way because he was fighting me every step of the way, and I was going to make sure that I restrained him enough to prevent him from hurting himself or someone else, or having the chance to try and throw another shot at me.

A month later, this same kid was arrested in the school for starting a fight, then after it was broken up, sneaking up with a cheap shot against the other guy and knocking him unconscious.

I had to put a 250 pound kid in a modified chokehold earlier this year as well, after he tackled a small kid and was whaling away on him, despite my instructions to stop. THis was a big boy, so the only way I was going to get him off was to use a lot of force, so I had to kneel down over him, put my left arm under his left armpit, slide my right arm under his neck, then lock my right hand on my left forearm and pull him off with a lot of force. Within a second, I was pulling him backward down the hall, with only the back of his heels touching hte ground. Of course, I didn't hold him for more than a second this way, just had to use the leverage to get him off the other kid - again to protect both him and the young man that was getting pummeled (if one of his shots landed clean to the side of the head, there would have been some real problems).

So, the whole point is this - when there is a situation where two kids are fighting, and you have the physical capacity to break it up without hurting one of them - you need to do so, even if it means exerting some force. It is the safer alternative, and protects both kids (the one doing the beating, and the one getting the beating.)

Heh.. Stupid fucking bussdriver. There was no need to use that kind of force on such a little kid. Had that been a regular bus and I had been on it I would have done the same to him to get him to get him to let go. Stupid nobrainer. To get repsect you have to earn it. No one should have it just because of the position or age or whatever unless they behave properly. All this idiot had to do was to grab his arm and drag him outside.

This isn't a common thing - I just happened to be unlucky enough to be right there when two altercations happened. I've broken up a lot of fights without having to do anything but tell them to stop. In both of these cases, the student was actively trying to fight against me.

Unlike the busdriver, though, I didn't try to do any offensive type move on the kids. I'm not going to do anything stupid that would cost me my career or worse. Although I'm sure this will sound kind of lame to the kids who read this forum, my only concern in both cases was the safety of both individuals - and although I am no royce gracie or anything, I know a few useful tools for restraining people safely.

Starting to teach myself some more now too, thanks to some good info from sys0p.

Your damn if you do and damn if don't. Its all the parents fualt for leting their kids get out of control. I see it all the time. If that was my Dad or grandfather and a bully ass 12yr old kid spoke to him like that I would of slap the bugers outta of that kids nose.

Yeah me too....me and my freind used to walk to the bowling alley and along the way there was a bunch of trees close together. One day I said 'IT'S THE TRIALS LETS KICK SOME ASS' and started doing every kick and punch from Bloodsport on the trees...we did that everytime from then on.

I know a bus driver that LET a kid get the shit kicked out of him in a bus.

This guy was insulting a friend of mine on a ride back home from school. He was callingh im all sorts of racial names cause he was asian. Well my friend get's up and starts beating the shit out of this kid that was being an asshole, he had him pinned right against the window in one of the bus seats. He'd give him a knee to the head everytime he'd try to get up the guys face was a mess. Two black eyes and bruised like fuck.

The bus driver never stopped him till he got to his bustop.
