Restoring from backup file

Post by Scourge »

My main drive has 2 partitions. The first partition was used for 98se and the remaining space is my XP install. Could I format the drive and use the backup file to restore XP to the beginning of the drive instead of where it's at now? The backup file is on another hd, btw.

What do you mean where its at now? As in D: or whatever the second partition is?

It's labled C:\ but I have G:\ in front of it in the first 10 gigs of the drive. I want to do away with G:\ and move all the XP stuff up to the first of the drive without a completely new installation if possible.

K, then partition magic is one of the safest solutions.

That's what I used in the first place and it won't let me undo the changes(well, more like it won't let me make any other changes). I made a rescue disk but I can't find it. Figured I could use windows backup and fix it that way.

edit: The drive is still bootable and XP is working fine like it should. I just want it back at the start of the drive.

Basically all I need to know is if it will work. I'll just do a fresh install if it won't, but I'd really rather not have to go through all that hastle. I really need to get off my butt and get my system the way I want it and slipstream an install for it.
