Faulting application quake3.exe

Post by wD40 »

Please can someone help me. My q3 is crashing ALL the time:( Its the only game I play online and I miss it so:(

I use norton ghost and ive ghosted back to 2 different images I made but neither of those have helped. The game will just die during online play. I will get a terrible sound from my speakers and all I can do is hit the reset button.

Before I made my last step back (using ghost) I saw in the event viewer that ati(something).dll was mentioned so I went back to the previous drivers and done that again, and again, and im now of the 4.12 ones.

This did fix my problems for a while but now its crashing as frequent as ever and now im getting this in the event viewer...

"Faulting application quake3.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module quake3.exe, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x0001a419."

I dont know if these problems are related or completely different but if ati is mentioned then I know enough to check my vid drivers but the above is Chinese to me:(

If you can help me please do:) Any help will be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

This might work:
We're hearing from several players who run Windows XP that setting their game to run in Windows 95 or Windows 98 compatibility mode makes the game run smoother and, in many cases, makes annoying crashes and lockups go away. The 'Compatibility' tab in the properties of the game's icon (use the right mouse button and choose properties) is where this change can be made.
Wouldn't hurt to try.

If it doesn't work, try deleting all 'quake3.exe ' from 'C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch'.
