Getting a radeon 9800 pro for my computer... good move?

Post by Guest »

What I have now:

athlon 2000+
Asus A7N8X
512mb ddr266
Radeon 9000 Pro 128mb

I'm wondering if my system will bottleneck (and how much) if I get a 9800 Pro. I want to play games like Farcry, NFS:U2, Deus Ex 2, Max Payne 2, etc. Currently, my video card is shit, so its the limiting factor inmy system. I'm wondering if I can expect a very significant improvement if I get a 9800 Pro, or is it not worth it.

Btw, I'll most likely get the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb for $170 CAD used.

Also, what if I get the card now and then upgrade my computer to the max it can support, like 2x512mb ddr400 w/ a 3000+ 400mhz fsb?

Thats my general plan, but I'm wondering if it will bottleneck a whole lot or just a bit.

yeah, it'll be just a bit..

even getting a BFG 6800 OC + would help system performance, then later getting a better cpu+ram

But I'm gonna go with PCI-E next, plus I don't have money for a 6800GT.
