when i go into multiplayer and the servers start listing, there are over 2000 most of the time. I will either hit the space or sit and list the full list generate, when it stops and i try to scroll thru the list to find a server i want to join it only highlights a couple of them and wont let me go thru the whole list.
does anyone have any idea why this is happening?
and what's up with the ones that have the quake symbol instead of the map that that server is using?

The in-game server browser is utter shit. There is nothing wrong with your computer...it takes forever to load and sometimes doesn't even load anything...the solution is simple. Get The All-Seeing Eye.

As for the Quake 3 symbol appearing where a map's levelshot should, that's because you don't have that map. You could always autodownload the map, but I don't recommend that as it can take a very long time at some servers. The best way to get a map is to Google search the file name with the .PK3 extension.
Example: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=ztn3tourney1.pk3
First result is a direct link to the map file. After it's downloaded, simply put the map into "C:\Program Files\Quake III Arena\baseq3"
That's where all downloaded maps, skins, models, ect are put.
