Quick, I need to know whats better 9800 Pro or 6600GT
I'm buying a new card this afternoon, my options are a;
9800 Pro 256MB DDR3 - $225
6600GT 128MB DDR3 - $275
I can't decide or find any good benchmarks comparing the two. I have one colleague saying the 6600GT is better, hands down. So?

It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.
I am now sick.

Getting too expensive though.ToxicBug wrote:An X800 XL is even more better.
This system is about to be retired from heavy 3D gaming in a few months, I just need an intermediary to get me through until I build my new rig.
The x800se is a $100 more than the 6600GT. But i'm wondering if it's worth it. I know the x800 is ATI's latest and greatest, but it's an 'SE'.

on Doom 3 it was a 10 fps difference im guessing?
It was 27 fps once i had OC'd my processor as well
That went from a 3000+ to a 3400+
On HL2 i have had no need to try as it doesnt struggle even
with everything on high @ 1024*768 rez

I'd take the 6600GT, also Tom's Hardware Guide is the best place for video card comparisons IMO. THG VGA Charts IV
Here is a really good article on the 6600GT AGP Article from THG. In this article they compare the 6600GT to the 9800 Pro, 5950 Ultra, and 6800 vanilla. They use 10 benchmarks and you can see the 6600GT pulling ahead of the 9800 Pro in 7 of the 10 benchmarks. The 6600GT fell behind in Flight Simulator 2004, Joint Operations, and DTM Race Driver 2. With a very small lead in DTM Race Driver 2 for the 9800 Pro.
Here is a part from the conclusion:

At the same time, we were surprised to note that the discontinued Radeon 9800 Pro - available today in the same midrange $199 - $249 price region - holds its own against the 6600 GT AGP very well in some categories. But although it is nearly as fast or even slightly faster in some games, the Radeon 9800 Pro can't keep up with the 6600 GT AGP in most areas.

Uh...what pipelines?ToxicBug wrote:Can you unlock the pipelines?Don Carlos wrote:6600 GT sir
Can be clocked to 6800 speeds
It's an entirely differn't chip. The pipelines aren't locked. Are you thinking 6800 > 6800 GT?
And it's hard to say. If it's $275 USD for the 6600GT, then seriously, get the X800XL. It's waaaaay better and for only $25 more. But I really hope that's Canadian $.
What games do you play?
OpenGL = 6600GT
DirectX = 9800 Pro
Oh, I didn't know that. I thought it was something a la 9500pro to 9700pro via a bios flash.Psyche911 wrote:Uh...what pipelines?ToxicBug wrote:Can you unlock the pipelines?Don Carlos wrote:6600 GT sir
