My new hard drive just made a motherfucking scary noise. I'm downloading torrents 24/7 and surf at the same time, so I heard it make some weird clicks, but just now it made a fucking "tuck click tuck click buzzzzzzzzzzz" made me thing that it died. Weird cause its brand fucking new, bought it a week ago.

Go to Maxtor's website and download their drive diagostic application. That should tell you if its got issues developing.

'Sounds' like the spin-down noise that - AFAIK - all Maxtor drives make. The two I have do it all the time.

My Maxtor drives are silent, and I have 4 in the house and 4 in the office.

I hate maxtor. I will never buy them again. I have had 3! of them die on me. But the sounds you are describing sounds like the sounds two of them made shortly before dying.

I've got 5 maxtors in the various computers in my home, and while the oldest two seem to be going downhill, they've been used quite heavily, and the others are nothing but good.

Mines also on 24/7, but thats the right way to run it either way, otherwise u'll stress it when u turn it on/off.

Check your power settings to see what the drive shut down is...

I have 5 maxtor drives in my current PC and I've built at least 20 other other computers for friends and myself using maxtor drives. I've only had 1 problem.

But the clicking and ticking noise is something to worry about.

Get the maxtor drive utility and check it out.

That's not really true. Assuming the PC is shut down correctly, the drive heads park themselves correctly and the unit shuts down as designed. In fact, unless you've bought some server-grade equipment (raptors or scsi disks for example), the units are not designed to run 24/7 and the heat damage + motor use over time will reduce the life of the unit.
