Evolution question
Evolution question
This might be a stupid question but I’m wondering why did the first life forms avert from self replicating into what we have now? And how would it happen? We need a female and male to replicate, how would evolution allow this to happen.
Those are big questions. It didn't just go from self-replication to what we had now, and we aren't going to have much in the way of fossils from those periods - which is to be expected due to the nature of fossil formation.
As for the evolution of two sexes, that is not too hard to envision. Look around this website - http://www.talkorigins.org
and you'll find answers to most of your questions. Or look back at the evolution thread we had awhile back...i'll find it..
Check this thread...doesn't address your questions specifically, but lots of evolution talk.

I don't know nothing about this, but here's whut I think:
If one or more organisms produce 1000 off spring, there is a small chance that some of them will be "mutated." This kind of mutation can be brought forth through some factors in nature or by chance. Because of this mutation, most mutants are going to die but some are going to survive if the mutation is useful or has no real effect. Through a continuous process of mutations over millions of years you can get organisms that are radically different from their original "parents." The traits that are going to differ between later generations of mutants and the originals include color and other things like that (shape and figure, size of organs, etc.) which serve to introduce new species.
Yeah...I think...

Yeah...I think...
People should be allowed to express their opinions without contempt if they are reasonably open minded to other opinions, better or worse. It's when people start shamelessly defending their poorly justified beliefs upon being criticized that we run into head thumping.tnf wrote:I foresee a lot of what is going on in my sig happening in this thread if it takes off...
Do you think I don't agree with that or something?mjrpes wrote:People should be allowed to express their opinions without contempt if they are reasonably open minded to other opinions, better or worse. Well, I thought you were making reference to the post by KingManULTRA.tnf wrote:Do you think I don't agree with that or something?mjrpes wrote:People should be allowed to express their opinions without contempt if they are reasonably open minded to other opinions, better or worse. Sorry about that. I know that it is common if a person is replying to a post that is directly above them, they don't quote the person. I also should have taken into consideration the fact that evolution discussions have been discussed to death, and that I guess it was your way of knowing beforehand the most likely outcome of discussions like this. My post erred, and I am sorry for the problems it may have caused to you and others who might be reading this thread. Man, Adderall is awesome.tnf wrote:I'm about to give you shit for thinking that though.

You know I wept when I wrote that. And I know your heart is finally at peace because I wrought tears of true repentance and, in a way, tears of the coming joy to be found when this community will one day walk together with peace in all hearts. Sleep well.Hannibal wrote:Cool. I can finally go to bed in peace.mjrpes wrote: ....I am sorry for the problems it may have caused to you and others who might be reading this thread.
