I don't have an arena in the traditional Roman sense, but sometimes i organise fights in my parents garden when they are away. Ocassionally i order stray cats & dogs to be thrown into the fray, to keep things exciting.

One of the things i noticed in my arena is that when one of the animals happens to win a fight, the thumb-system is not very effective at all.

We're recently started working on an elaborate set of animal guidance rules based on Pavlovian principles... but this is still relatively experimental. We haven't quite given up on researching in how far pain caused by a pointy stick will help steer the creatures in our preferred direction as it were... it just seems more cost effective that way.
