Trivial nonsense

Post by corpse »

I've noticed that a lot of business emails are a persons name with a dot in between.

Such as, bob.clark@whatever.com

Is there a reason for this? Why not just bobclark@whatever

I prefer not to setup my users email addresses that way but many companies decide to use that as their naming convention. Its not right or wrong really, just a matter of preference.

Probably so they can easily tell what the first name and last name is.

Some companies use bclark@whatever.com

that's exactly why. throughout our corportation, there are alot of different names from so many nationalities, you HAVE to have that "." in there to differentiate. sure, if everyone was a boring "steve smith" then it wouldn't be a big deal.

Anyone not familiar with your language can't so easily pick out where your first name stops and the last name begins. Of course, even WITH the dot, you still can't be sure if it's in lastname.firstname@company.com format.

For example:
zdenedasarzancvolva@edgecom.net

as opposed to zdeneda.sarzancvolva@edgecom.net
