What's the best stuff I could buy for this machine?

Post by Kammesennin »

Wondering what's the best NVIDIA card i could get this old craptastic machine. It's on Win98.s.e. and I have a bit of a budget on each piece of equipment.
$100 for the Graphics card is my limit as of now. I don't want anything too drastic anyway, this isn't my main pc, this is just an old thing I wanna upgrade. And incase anyone is gonna ask this anyway, I have an SiS 305/315 piece of shit in there right now... sux my ass.
It has 192MB of ram in it now, a stick of 128 and... 56 or 64 , whatever i suck at math and i'm tired lol. I think I'll just go with a stick of 512 or 256 or something... so no help actually needed there I guess, but if anyone knows the general price range for sticks 256 and up, that would be appreciated.
Definitely need a new harddrive, it's got 15gb between two harddrives, lol. So, I'd like to definitely bring that up, but I believe I'm limited again to $100 on that one as well, so the biggest I can get that'll work on my machine would be nice.
I think that's about it... if I think of anything else I'll edit this post. Anyone who has suggestions for me, thank you very much.

EDIT: Aha, thought of something... processor is terrible, it's a p3 500mhz pile of crap, problem is i haven't seen it yet, so I dunno what type of connection it is, and it's so friggin' cramped in that tower i'd have to rip this thing completely apart to get a look at it, so I think I'll leave the processor to myself to find, unless there is a definite no matter what type of connection for p3's, then feel free to make a suggestion, but again, $100 limit on those as well. And incase anybody gets confused about the $100 limit it's not an all-around limit, it is $100 per part.

A high end Geforce 2 MX should suit that machine nicely. 256Mb of ram. You'll probably save enough money on those components to also afford a copy of Windows XP for it as well.

XP runs fine on a machine with that spec.
