Hyundai L90D+

Post by Dr.Gibbs »

I keep reading things on this monitor, and I've heard conflicting reports... some people say it's 6 bit, some people say it's 8 bit. Hyundai's site says it's 8 bit, but with so many people thinking otherwise, I'm a little worried.

Does anyone have this monitor? Is it any good? I've heard the viewing angle is bad but the image quality is excellent.

I have this monitor.

Its an OK flat screen monitor for games ( very little noticable ghosting ), but for some odd reason it displays video as washed out. Almost as though the contrast was dropped really low.

I was also disappionted that in DVI mode it can only reach 60Hz so there is an eyestrain problem ( at least for me ). If you switch to Analog mode you can get 75Hz.

If you dont need it for games, I wouldnt recommend this monitor.

I also have a Samsung SyncMaster 193P which is a much better flat screen ..., but not for games.

backlight bleeding. backlight bleed is the effect that occurs in LCD displays in which the entire display is constantly lit from behind by a light source. the LCD then blocks out the light that is not needed. Unfortunately, it can't perfectly block the light 100% so you get some light that always bleeds through the 'almost' opaque LCD. this allows a tiny bit of light to bleed through and the blacks to actually be more of a dark gray. this is one reason why LCD tv's are lame.

Oh, OK I know what you mean. The only time I notice any thing like you describe is in the UI of Doom3, not so much once your in the game, but I really notice it when the start screen for D3 opens up. All the black is sort of greyish.

I dont notice that at all in Q3 or Battlefeild2.

I think for the most part the colors are quite rich, with just the few exceptions I mentioned.

Thanks. I think I'll stick with my dying CRT for now, until it dies, or I die, or LCD's actually become decent :p

Why doesn't anyone make plasma monitors, anyway? :paranoid:

well, LCD's are decent for things like gaming or when in situations where you're not worried about black levels. they're total crap, again imo, for movies though.

all LCD's inherently have this backlighting issue, just some worse than others.

some people don't have the means or the room for a proper setup and i can understand that (not saying you). i just don't think that an LCD is a good choice if you're using it for your dvd viewing.

My main goal is space and power saving. This Dell only uses 80W max.. My two CRTs use nearly 3 times that :puke:

ehehe, we have two of those in our Assets Protection room. you'll be very pleased. it DOES have decent blacks for an LCD, just not good enough for my picky @ss taste. for anything other than dvd playback though, it's gorgeous. you won't be dissapointed.

I decided with the mass HD transition coming up, investing in DVD wasn't worth it. I can't justify buying anything HT related, except speakers, right now because the tech price is going to fall through the floor and new tech will be introduced at any moment.

Ahhhhh.. i fuckin hate technology *empties wallet*

sure, but which format? HD dvd or Blue-ray? this war is ridiculous. i'm not waiting for crap. i'll keep buying dvd's. if i decide to buy them in HD format later, so be it.

Oh, I buy DVD's. I mean i'm waiting on investing in decent hardware. Speakers are the only component guaranteed to be compatible with whatever I decide to get.

O I C

but that's not necessarily true if you get seperate components all around. if you get an all in one receiver, well....

I have an old Integra receiver that does DTS and Dolby Digital. No fancy video inputs (unless you consider svideo fancy) jacked into my mac via optical cable. It gets the job done
