Well I personally like engines of all cylinder counts as long as they deliver and were made well. Personally I think that inline 4 engines should have a manual transmission so you can really control the car more, as where a V8, V10 and V12 are the least who need it given their huge power bands. Personally I perfer an inline 6 to a V6, but I am biased.

They're all over the damn place back home. The ones I've been in are nice cars, and they're fucking tanks. I know a chick that put one off a 50 foot embankment and down through a bunch of trees. Crawled out the back window without a scratch.
They use the Penta engine in boats quite a bit as well. Never thought that a 5 cylinder would be very smooth, but they are.
