looking to buy a console

Post by Tsakali »

who would'of thaught, me, buying a concole.

but anyway here is the deal, I want a concole that has the biggest variety of games, since I'm going to get this to entertain basicaly m and my girlfriend( and some friends here and there).
so I need it to have cool games and yet some more gender neutral games as well if that makes any sense.

obviously I am pointing towards either a PS2 or an XBOX.

I don't want to start a war between them but I know by asking peoples opinion I'm pushing it

anywho thanx for the advice in advance.
oh plus if anyone has a reason to not buy a used concole from ebay speak out.

PS2 or xbox. PS2 does have more games, and would probably be the better choice for your GF. However, unless you wants something thats exclusive to PS2, grab an xbox because chances are it will be on there and play better/look nicer.

The PS2 does have a few gems, Jak, Ratchet etc etc, which are not on Xbox.

And you can get the XBox modded. Maybe PS2 also, I know nothing about any really. But XBox with 120GB disk is nice for storing games and movies etc..

My perspective:

XBOX is expensive, expensive games, fewer good titles, solidly geared towards blokes. On the other hand, *HALO OMGZOR*

Gamecube is an excellent price, Nintendo are a solid company, and there's plenty of games for all genders (and indeed ages). Best if you like your RPGs rather than fast action titles. Controllers are shit.

PS2 is middle ground, and the most expansive game lineup. Not as girl-friendly as the cube, but still plenty out there. Downside is only 2-player native without extras. Games are cheap.

I remember you're into your driving sims, PS2 is the way to go for that IMO. Turismo, for a start :)

Foo, sony charge a lot for games, and a lot for the console too. The cube it the cheapest console, but has £40 games. The xbox is middle range in price, but best on game prices. The PS2 on the other hand, is the most expensive console, with the second most expensive games.

Coming from a none girls POV, its also the worst graphically, and the oldest of the 3.

I would say a cube, but i doubt she would be interested and it does cost a lot for so little unfortunatly.

Depends how you look at it. PS2 has over 100 titles in the greatest hits lineup (but I'm sure Xbox has plenty of platinum hits by now). Either way, you can't go wrong with stacking up your library with these ($19.99) games. =D

I have to agree, the cube has the most replay value. Xbox is only worth buying if your going get xbox live, and then your going to be playing mostly light fps and racing games. Allot of the ps2 / xbox games look better on the xbox.

Don't discount the enourmous back catalog and second hand market, in which the PS2 is king.

PS1 games which work on the PS2 are like 5 quid, and second hand PS2 games range from 10 to 20.

You can get 2nd hand xbox games too, but they're pricy (15+) and there's not as many.

BTW latest prices:
XBOX: £99 (Play.com)
PS2: £96.99 Delivered (Play again)

So there's nothing in that, I guess. 'cept for that price we're talking about the second gen PS2.

I bought like 10 used ps2 games from gamestop a year ago for like 40 bucks. There are some great deals if you look. I think I picked up metal gear (not the directors cut) for like $3. And I sold it back a few months later, the dumb bitch at the counter gave me $5 for it lol.
