I have been having some issues with pop ups recently even though I haven't used IE for ages. Anyway, I thought I would run Ad-Aware to check for spybots etc etc.
It scans the files as normal, scanning local registry, however it hangs on the file: Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer. I have to ctrl+alt+del out of it. Do you think I have a virus or something? I tried to uninstall IE completely but I cant work out how you do it. What happens if you just delete the IE folder in Program Files?
Any ideas?

Is this serious?
Does it scan if you hide internet explorer, what I mean to say is does your scanner scan hidden files, or can you toggle that on/off, etc etc.
Edit: I have removed internet explorer ONCE successfully, it is a long and tedious process, I don't recommend attempting to delete it, I'm pretty sure you can't just delete the folder.

IE is an integral part of windows and cannot be removed completely.
I would recommend trying a few of the other adware programs out there, and patching IE up to the newest version you can, and failing all that, booting into safe mode and scanning then (dunno if you can or not).

could try add/remove programs/->add/remove windows components, uncheck internet explorer, reboot, reinstall.
then check windows update for upgrades incase it's ie 5.x
what do you mean by pop-ups? just out of the blue or when browsing? i've been getting the odd one with firefox but it's mostly flash(i think)pop-ups and the rare one that comes up behind the main window.

OK. I have tried using another adware programme called Spybot. It found some files and has deleted them.
shadd_ by popups I mean one in particular. It brought up a little IE window (even though I use Mozilla) which ironically was an advert for a spybot software. Anyway I just rebooted and it didn't pop up this time, so hopefully I have cure that little fucker.
Thanks for help.
