I have a friend with an Athlon, Socket A cpu. Running XP, SP2.
His machine stopped running suddenlly. The power lights stay on and the power supply fan is running.
When booting, it does not beep for post and the monitor light flashes green.
His cpu fan died, not spinning at all.
There were several capacitors on the motherboard that were blown.
We put a new motherboard in and all hooked up, but when we turn it on, no post [no beep] and the monitor light still just flashes green.
Do you guys think the CPU is shot?

I wasnt sure because I had heard or read that as long as the heatsink is still attached, it would be fine. That the CPU would shut down the system before it did any damage.
And shouldnt it give some kind of beep code even if the CPU is dead? I took the RAM out and tried booting and still no beeps of any kinnd
