no one can join my set up game
:icon23: help my husband and i have a pc each running windows xp home, and we can both join a friend in an online game if he sets up, he is on bt broadband. my husband and i are on blueyonder broadband. both my husband and i can set up a game but no one else can join the game. also i cannot play against my husband as it won't find his pc, because we are both on the same connection via a router we both have the same ip address. please can anyone advise me on how one of us can set up a game so others can join or advise me on how i can play my husband. thank you very much, i so wanna play him so i can kick his arse

Since you and your husband are behind a router, you both have your own LAN (Local Area Network) IP, which is usually a 192.168.0.* address. For the outside world (i.e. the Internet) you share a single IP but that's assigned to the router, which redirects traffic as appropriate.
To find out the IP for local games: Start
Run
cmd [enter]
ipconfig [enter]
It gets a bit more complicated if you want people from outside to join. You'll have to open ports on your router and forward traffic to the right computer.

still won't work
thank you for your prompt reply, i have done the ip config thingy and as you said it was a 192.168.2.* i set up a game and still my husband couldn't join. do we need to drop firewalls or anything? and i actually thought that instead of the ip we would of just typed localhost. if you think all this is too much to explain in a peply then please add me to msn if you run it. it is colliebarney1974@hotmail.co.uk i am at my wits end as i love quake and i can't play my husband or my friend who normally just connects using my 82.38.60.** ip address. i can join my friend easily enough as can my husband but he cannot join if we set up, omg it's so complicated.
