I am having a problem with online play and I belive it may be a router or firewall problem.
I can play on servers started by other players just fine though I often have a bad problem with lag and high ping, but when I start a server it not only dosent show up in the list of servers in the multiplayer list but my friends can't even connect to my server useing the specify option and entering my IP address.
I have port 80 open for Q3A in my system and I have port 27960 set in Q3A.
If I disconnect from the router others can enter a server I start (most of the time) but my server still dosen't show up in the multiplayer list of servers.
I can't just disconnect from the router every time I want to play because others in the house also connect to the internet through the router.
So I need to figure out what to do that will let my server show up in the multiplayer list and alow others to connect to my server even behind my router.
I don't even know where to start with this problem.
If it will help here are the system specs and the equipment I am useing currently useing.

Re: Players not able to connect to my server
Quake 3 doesen't use port 80...Magnus wrote:I have port 80 open for Q3A in my system and I have port 27960 set in Q3A.
Open TCP/UDP port in your router (port forward) 27960-27969
The router has nothing to do with your server not starting in the master, in order to do that add this to the servers config.
Code: Select all
seta sv_master1 "master3.idsoftware.com"
seta sv_master2 "master0.gamespy.com"
seta sv_master3 "clanservers.net"
seta sv_master4 "q3master.barrysworld.com"

Re: Players not able to connect to my server
Only UDP is necessary, Q3A doesn't use TCP.Bacon wrote:Open TCP/UDP port in your router (port forward) 27960-27969
So when I opend port 80 for quake 3 arena usage in my windows firewall settings that was the wrong port to open?
I read something about useing port 8080, but it has been so long that I can't rember where I heard it or exacly if it pertained to this kind of problem
So misantropia when you had me set port 27960 in q3a that is all I needed to do there.
So all I need to do is add the code Bacon provided and make the changed in my router?
As you know misatropia I am kinda router ignorant. Can you clue me in on what tab and section to go under in order to enter the changes and open those ports in my router?
If it would help for you to see my routers setup page I will send you the ip to enter and the password to get in.
Then maybe we can start playing again and I might have a chance a crushing you...lol....well maybe not but perhaps I will at least not feel like a sitting duck. :icon25:
Thanks to you all!

magnus, take a look at http://www.portforward.com/ - it has step-by-step instructions for most router models.
BTW, TCP ports 80 and 8080 are used for HTTP traffic (web surfing).
