single person mission packs

Forgive me, as a long time fan of Quake, the fact that I have taken so long to find this forum probably speaks for itself re my 'net skills.
These days, I'm a Q3 junkie . I would like to keep the QIII experience going. As a family bloke, and with dial-up access only, I don't have the chance to get involved in on-line game play, but I enjoy single player mission pack varieties such as team arena and painkeep. Are there any other recommended QIII mods such as painkeep that will keep me entertained? I know there are plenty of maps, but I am really keen on full conversations.

When I wake up tomorrow...I take it I extract the mods to my QIII folder, then select the relevant mod from the mods options, or do some of them have start icons a la pain keep?

i know of some dial up servers if you want to try online q3

It's a shame you're on dialup, or you could download CPMA (it has many great maps, 120 MB dl). That mod has the best/most intelligent bots to play againt. It has a variable bot skill from 1-100 so you can set it to match your own level.

Battlebots should be a lot of fun to play in single player mode. Ultra Freeze Tag (Ufreeze) is fun with bots too. I think you will definitely like Alternate Fire too.

Well you could just download a bunch of maps from a site like ..::LvL (http://www.lvlworld.com) and add in a few bots yourself.

I've downloaded HH3 which is a great deathmatch conversion. My only problem is I always loose my map progress , ie, each time I play - I have to start from the first map...I have downloaded the patch, any other tips I need to know about?
I am downloadnig CPMA as I type. (dialup is too slow for decent online game play which is why I am keen for DM conversions - but at least I can leave the machine on overnight for big files) - I'm looking forward to playing that one as well.

Well folks, finally managed to get ADSL. Ping rates to overseas still aren't great, but I am hoping for a new video card that should overcome that problem. Within Oz, FUNTASTIC!

I'll start looking at the maps again, ALL maps - both multiplayer (at last) and single player. What have I missed my friends? All I know that QIII still rates as the on-line FTP game despite all the newcomers trying to take the crown (including Q4)

If you use xfire, I'm "willowoz" and will probably be lurking the first QIII maps for a while until I can get used to all this excitement, but can't wait for someone to take me on via painkeep. Mind you, I haven't got to setting up my own show yet, I'm still joining other gamers//// one step at a time son huh .... :icon27:

Hope you keep going. Q3 is very fun. And if you're pinging badly a new graphics card can't fix it nor should you set up a server. But play much to learn the way it goes.

I'm baacck as they say
I've been trying different things. I've ditched gamespy for Xfire, which seems to have been a good start as I"m not getting kicked as often as I used to, and it is easier to set parameters to allow for the ping over here. I think you were right about the ping, it's not the graphics card - it's just the Oz to overseas factor sadly (but I am getting a new graphics card anyway :icon31: ). I'm getting some good games within Australia, but going over to the US for example fractures a bit, (but it is still worth the effort.)
So now my only problem is, where can I find people with different maps to play? I haven't found anyone using HH, Pain Keep or anything much other than the standard QIII maps. Certainly a lot more fun than playing bots all the time, but still gets a bit dull.
I'll get the Rocket Arena map and give it a go I guess, I see that listed a lot, but is QIII dying :icon23: ?
