Doom 3 Resurrection of Evil
Doom 3 Resurrection of Evil
Just posting to say I am utterly enjoying this expansionpack. I loved Doom3 and this has all the good points of D3 minus the bad stuff like monster closets (although there are a few, just not excessively many).
I just entered Deimos labs. The bit before in the toxic tunnel was absolutely horrible. I was low on health and the amount of air you get (including the air cannisters dropped here and there) is barely sufficient. Using the artifact's slow-down helped me a lot.
I acquired the berserk power, but how exactly does this one work? I never really understood how it worked in the original Doom (I assumed you got a lot of healt and your fists would do a lot of damage and other weapons normal damage). Also, is it possible to use the slow-down power once you've acquired berserk?

Yeah, in the original, berserk would put you back up to 100 health and give you more punching power, roughly around shotgun strength I think. In D3 I'm pretty sure it gives you the extra strength but gives you temp invincibility instead of health.Eraser wrote:Just posting to say I am utterly enjoying this expansionpack. Haven't tried RoE yet, may get that this next weekend.
Nah I don't think it does invulnerability because I think that's the third power of the artifact.
But does it beef up only your punching strength or also all the other weapons?
Oh yeah and my question about the slow down skill (or helltime it was called I think) can be ignored, as apparantly the berserk power slows down time as well. I guess the powers are just added cumulatively.

in sp berserk makes all your weapons stronger, a few mg bullets is enough to take down most enemies.
So yeah anyway, after having roe for a while i just decided to play through it so i could clear up some hard disk space :icon32: bit late, but my thoughts:
It does definitely feel short but I guess this has something to do with how long the original was.
Im up to the end of the game, just have to finish the boss.
I found it to be a lot darker than d3
especially towards the end, i had to turn my brightness up when i kept running into revenants without even seeing them, resulting in oversaturated colours
in d3 i didnt seem to die much, usually only falling to death and stupid stuff like that. In roe, it goes from one extreme to another... early on having 2 vulgars (the 'new imps') clawing at you and other baddies on the spawn, and generally higher monster counts than d3 in equally tight spaces, meant i died a few times more than usual (hard difficulty)...that is UNTIL you get berserk (and especially invulnerability). Then it gets too easy and boring. I mean, try taking on one of those bruisers (the TV monsters) without the artefact and you get destroyed, let alone two + nuisance enemies. So you use the artefact and they go down in one blast, and you keep using it because there are plenty of corpses about. End result being you end up killing most threatening monsters in hell time and 'grabbing' the rest.
also, i loved how you go back to delta labs and see the old shit from d3 :icon31: like the pinky door smash...
but overall i cant say i enjoyed roe more than d3, i guess monster closets just didnt bother me as much as some. the grabber would have been a nice addition in the original tho (i wish it operated like the flashlight though IE 2nd press returns to weapon, not fists)

ROE was far far more a better game than Doom 3. It tried so hard to bring in stuff that Doom 3 lackedso badly, and took away stuff that REALLY shouldn't of been there in the first place.
I was VERY disapointed with the grabber though. What was the point of it when there was only about 2 things a level that moved... I guess its got more to do with Doom's physics just being shit after playing HL2, where pretty much everything could be grabbed/moved...

lol, the beserker pack dose not make you invurable in doom 3, i think i just boosts up your dmg to a shotgun blast to the face, an i doom it make your punches almost as hard as a rocket. also in doom 3 i really dont think the beserker pack boosts your other wepon strength, dont know about the mp tho?

Yes it does. Try this, go to one of the levels that has the berserk grab it and then just stand there amongst all the enemies. I did this and with a Hell Knight directly in front of me pounding away I took absolutely no damage. After the berserk wore off I was killed in seconds. Doesn't matter what skill level either.TR!N!X wrote:lol, the beserker pack dose not make you invurable in doom 3, i think i just boosts up your dmg to a shotgun blast to the face, an i doom it make your punches almost as hard as a rocket. also in doom 3 i really dont think the beserker pack boosts your other wepon strength, dont know about the mp tho?
Hey guys, I'm about to reimmerse myself into doom3 again. Haven't played it since last year and am still at delta labs sector 2.
3 questions I have. Do I still have a few levels to go? And, is the expansion pack as long as the original game or almost as long?
I saw something mentioned about capture the flag in the advert for ROE which doesn't interest me. I assume the expansion pack is mostly SP action?

Yeah, you still have a good bit to go. I think more than half the game left. I've heard the expansion is shorter. By how much I'm not sure. And yeah, it's SP based.DRuM wrote:Hey guys, I'm about to reimmerse myself into doom3 again. Haven't played it since last year and am still at delta labs sector 2.
