Two video cards under Windows XP?

Post by glossy »

So I've got my "normal" video card, the NVIDIA GEFORCE 2 MX/MX 400, and a second card i have just installed along with a second monitor, a SiS 5598/6326. When I first installed the card, the NVIDIA screen was active (from BIOS POST, right into windows), but the SiS would not start with a "could not start" error :dork:. I updated the drivers (in windows' Device Manager "Update Driver..."), then rebooted, and now the SiS screen was active from BIOS. I'm posting using the SiS screen now, and the NVIDIA card is shown in the Device Manager with a "could not start" error.

A mate says that you can't have multiple video cards working at the same time in XP, but I call bullshit since I've done that plenty of times in windows98se, and it should be possible. Google searches have turned up nothing, and any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

Tried uninstalling the device (SiS) from inside the Device Manager, then restarting -- the NVIDIA was enabled from BIOS, and that's what i'm using now, and once I got into windows it detected the SiS card and installed it (but still did not use it).

Then tried uninstalling the SiS card in the Device Manager, [not restarting], and hitting "Scan for new hardware..." and reinstalling the card again -- nothing special, it just sits there on "Could not start" error.
