Quake engine-powered game releases under the GPL

Post by dzjepp »

Now that both the Q1 and Q2 source code are available for tinkering, there have been several releases for download, most if not all for free.

It can be interesting to sample for those of us that love anything Quake based, for starters. :D

From my understanding these 'games' do not require standalone Q1 or Q2 to be installed.

Here is the list:

CodeRED: Alien Arena - [Based on Q2] -- http://www.planetquake.com/cor/arena/ -- [Released]

Argonium - [Based on Q2] -- http://www.planetquake.com/td/argonium/ -- [Released]

Nosferatu - [Based on Qfusion/Q1] -- http://www.nosferatuthegame.com/ -- [In development]

Nexuiz - [Based on Darkplaces/Q1] -- http://www.nexuiz.com/ -- [Released]

OpenQuartz - [Based on Darkplaces/Q1] -- http://openquartz.sf.net/ -- [Released]

Digital Paint: Paintball 2.0 - [Based Q2] -- http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~digitalpaint/news.php -- [Released]

Warsow - [Based Qfusion/Q2] -- http://www.warsow.net/ -- [Released]

Ok, so they might not feel like 'full' games to some... but that dosen't mean it can't be fun!

Here's a few more for your list:

OpenQuartz (DarkPlaces/Q1) - Quake 1 playability with GPL media (textures, sounds, monsters, etc) - http://openquartz.sf.net/ - http://qexpo.quakedev.com/booths.php?tag=toddd

Digital Paint Paintball2 (Q2) - Paintball mod that has now become a stand-alone game - http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~digitalpaint/news.php - http://qexpo.quakedev.com/booths.php?tag=paintball2

War§ow (Qfusion/Q2) - Fast CPMA-like gameplay with the emphasis on movement - http://www.warsow.net/ - http://qexpo.quakedev.com/booths.php?tag=solomonk

Also note that Nexuiz has now been released
