Current Popularity of Quake III
Current Popularity of Quake III
I used to own a copy of Quake III a while ago, but then lost it. I really enjoyed playing it and got quite good, so I was wondering - do you think there is any point in my buying it again now, 4 months before the launch of Quake IV?
Do lots of people still play it? Or will it just be a waste of my money?
Thank you for any help you give me!

admitting you downloaded it on the official forum isnt the best idea.
But yes, it's still very popular and you can pick it up very cheaply from most game shops or online.

Do you recommend buying it despite Quake IV being out quite soon?CrinklyArse wrote:admitting you downloaded it on the official forum isnt the best idea.

thats what i mean, not much loss really, you know you like it considering you used to have it and enjoyed playing it, it will help when quake 4 does come out as you will be in practise, it's not much loss money wise if you don't like it anyway, and still very popular online.
ps, if you want this topic to stay open, scrap the bit about kazaa

For ppl with a creditcard ebay is the cheapest place to get a copy of Quake 3. I wouldn't hesitate buying a copy though. Having a proper copy (cd-key) allows you to play the most recent version (1.32) where most people play. You can still buy Q3 straight from iD, but shipping is gonna be a bit expensive for you i think (Netherlands?). Anyway, it's worth it.
Re: Current Popularity of Quake III
Quake 3 isn't dead yet, but interest has been waning. IMO it's the best multiplayer game out there for competition. Problem is the players that started with Q1/QW, Q2, Q3 are getting older now and out of the game. Newer players are looking for better graphics and WW2 style games remain popular. Despite this, there are still a fair number of people who still play. The game is only as dead as people want it to be. Although personally I would love to keep playing Q3, I wouldnt mind a new game either. Quake 3 has been many a hardcore game player's bread and butter for a long time now, but I think we all look forward to a new era of those days with a much larger community, with that new feel and excitement associated with a new game.MrBoygens wrote:I used to own a copy of Quake III a while ago, but then lost it. Let's hope Q4 lives up to it's predecessors.
