Can't do full install of game
Can't do full install of game
Here's a screenshot:

The game freezes everytime I get to that point when trying a full install, and the DVD player light stays on. CDCheck 3 also spotted the same cyclic redundancy error. I bought the DVD second hand. I can do a minimum install and play the game but I wonder if the game will freeze when it gets to that video clip. Is there anything I can do? CDCheck may be able to recover the file, but I want to do a full install if possible. And by recovering the file does that mean I choose the installation folder for CDCheck to extract it to or something?

Cyclic redundancy check error = damaged dvd
Try cleaning it as much as possible (remember wipe outwards, don't swirl around the disc)
If it still doesen't work, try ripping the dvd wit alcohol, skipping errors, you might get it to install properly.
If you are running MS Anti spyware, shut it down then try installing again.
Second hand is the key word here

I'll shut down MS Anti spyware and try again. I have daemon tools, is that as good? When you say skipping errors, you mean I should tick a box that will say something like 'skip errors'?Bacon wrote:try ripping the dvd wit alcohol, skipping errors, you might get it to install properly.

And you mean rip it all to my hardrive and then install it? If I have that all correct, I shall give that a go sir!
edit: downloaded alcohol anyway.
Couldn't get alcohol to bring up the options that are meant to be available as shown in the help file. It shows volume Syberia, but only when I select a diferent drive such as one of the empty virtual drives do all the options become available.
I dowloaded a program called UltraISO and have started burning an ISO image to my hardrive. It stopped working at 16%, but the weird thing is that I ejected the DVD and the iso program is now continuing to burn the image. I'm looking at the ISO image in the destination folder and everytime I refresh it's gotten bigger. Without the DVD, wtf? How is that possible?

Ok, after mounting the ISO image, it looked like a perfect copy in the virtual drive, same size, but things were missing and I couldn't install it. So bacon, I need your help still please with alcohol.
I found out that the game is protected with Starforce3. Here's some screenshots. When I load the CD/DVD device in alcohol from my DVD player, options are missing that I need to run the program properly, such as the datatype at the bottom which lets me select star force, read speed is greyed out, plus those other things. Yet in the second screenshot, they all become available when I select my CD writer. The syberia DVD doesn't work in the CD writer of course, so how do I get alcohol to give the options for the DVD?

[size=75][i]I once had a glass of milk.
It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.
I am now sick.

try a Skip Doctor you might be able to find the manual driven version at wal-mart or gamestop for aronud $20. I have an old one of those, I mean old, and it is a life saver for every CD, DVD and X-Box games. Definatly a good investment for anyone who gets scratched discs.

Cool, I'll think about that KOS. Regarding my DVD rom, I tried a CDR in it which has autoroute on and that got recognised fully with all options enabled. Alcohol obviously doesn't seem to like the syberia DVD. Is there another program like alcohol which rips but also gets around the various copy protections? All the DVD rip programs on google are to do with movies, and so they don't incorprate game protections.
If its SF3, then your most likely just fucked, unless you ditch your emulated drives..DRuM wrote:Cool, I'll think about that KOS. SF3 is a tough one to crack. Alcohol and the other apps can't do it atm, and probably won't for a long time. The best bet like soap said, you should get rid of all your virtual drives before installing. SF3 is such a bitch that sometimes it will sniff these out and go 'omg warez monkey!' and refuse to let you play your new game. :/
As a tip, for future Alcohol use, you should do advanced install, then rename the scsi drivers, to something like drumscsi. And check the options in the program once you run it, it will let you rename the virtual drives as well. Don't leave these default. This way you can prevent blacklisting.

Go to Alcohol options and under emulation, enable all of the emulation things. Then try to make an image with the 'starforce 3' preset.DRuM wrote:Yeah alcohol does do starforce 1, 2 and 3. Ok I'l' disable the virtual drives and see if it helps, but seeing as how a separate program picked up the error, I somehow don't think it'll make any difference![]()
Also, I don't have scsi, its all IDE.
But you are probably right, AT LEAST the game should install, regardless if it's SF3 or not. The problems start to occur once you launch the .exe
My guess bad dvd then.
I set all those emulations dzjepp. But even so, I still can't access the starforce preset, it's still like this screenshot:

Also sir, depending on WHICH drive brand and model, SF3 does NOT like R/RW, Do you have a "normal" drive to try it with?

Well I've had some luck finally. I've managed a full 4.6gb install. I read about coating scratches with toothpaste
I gave it a try by putting the smallest drop of it on and rubbing very lightly and radially over the whole surface then a small drop of water and tissue to clean it off, then buffed it dry with a soft cloth. The CD Check 3 program didn't report the error at video clip zeppelinaralbad.syb as it normally does. I'd also downloaded a program called IsoBuster which before cleaning reported sector errors at 16%, and after cleaning it ripped the whole thing perfectly. Whether it was the toothpaste that did it I don't know or maybe it was just the water. I suspect the toothpaste helped by whatever it does, either filling the scratches or being abrasive to rub them down.
So I had a perfect copy backup which I mounted in a virtual drive, but after putting the disc key in correctly from the back of the cd box, it did it's protection check and told me the key I typed was wrong. I can only imagine this is the starforce3 protection. So I unmounted it, put the DVD back, it did the check and all is well. It doesn't need to access my DVD to load any bits of the game, so it's really fast now. But I thought the idea of a full install also meant I wouldn't need to keep the DVD in the drive but it looks like I have to just for the disc key check each time I load the game. Oh well, much better than before anyway.
