Here's a fun problem (networking)

I have this strange problem with my computers. I have three networked atm:

Computer A: brand new rig, with a Gigabit Ethernet/LAN onboard its MSI 915P Combo motherboard

Computer B: newish rig, Dell Dimension 5000, also with onboard Gigabit Ethernet/LAN

Computer C: older machine with a 10Mbit PCI NIC on an Asus K7-V mobo.

all three work fine, connected to the internet, remote desktop to eachother, etc. except for one thing

Whenever I copy something 'large' (about 30megs) from Computer C to Computer A, Computer A will lose its network connection while he's copying. this can happen after 5 seconds, 10 seconds or even a minute. It's totally lost from the network and internet until I restart Computer A.
Copying something from Computer B to A poses no problem, copying something from Cimputer C to B works fine too. It's the copying from C to A that doesnt seem to work right. it's quite annoying indeed; I can work around it by copying the stuff from C to B, then transferring it from B to A.

I tried updating mobo and LAN drivers for Computer A. I even tried the default WinXP network drivers but to no avail.

what gives?

Firstly blame the french
Secondly update the drivers for Computer C
Thirdly What are you using? Hub? Switch?

C uses the XP drivers which (i assume :A ) get updated using win update

im using a hub. (which might be the reason why all 3 computers tell me they have a 10mbit connection going on while 2 of them have a gigabit lan)

the old one isnt, it cant update for some reason (tells me it cant find atapi.sys even though its there. stupid)

is it a known problem then?
also, isnt it weird that file transfer between C and B works flawlessly, even though B and A are nearly identical when it comes to specs?

Well i had problems with transfers between 2 PC's that were not
running all updates software....

Is one runnin SP1 and another running SP2
But C is running standard windows?

Other than that, just remove all cables and then delete all network stuff from the computers. reset them up...*shrug*

set them all to 10mbit and see what happens, or figure out what's wrong with C, doesn't sound healthy.

the two gigabits are running at 10mbit - they did that themselves for some reason (prolly because theres a 10mbit in the network? or because my hub is from the 1700's)

have u tried just swaping the cables around in the hub ports?

sounds like a crap hub to me.

it got more interesting.
i hooked up computer D to the network (winxp sp2, 10mbit nic) and the same problem occurs when copying to A.

juggs you say it might be the hub, maybe overloading? its always been 3 computers, i just swapped one with the other. or wasnt that the point you were trying to make ?

also if it were the hub, wouldnt it be strange that computer A loses all networking functionality? i have to restart that rig everytime it happens :S

i missed the restart bit. i'm stumped other than swapping that hub for a switch to eliminate that as being a possible cause.

just downloaded some obscure not digitally signed driver for the NIC version of this ethernet thing. i also just copied a 300mb file from computer D to A.
could this be a working driver?

by posting this i most likely jinxed it now

you guys were going on about Service Pack updates. I had figured you already had whatever latest driver there was for your NIC. what i was disagreeing with was the NEED to download the newest Service Pack other than security reasons.

i did have the latest driver. i downgraded to some non digi signed driver i found on some netwerking site (mostly linux, no less), and it looks like that fixed it.

the 3 most recent official drivers didnt

haha yea. i refrained from using the acronym NIC because then it looks like i'm talking about an actual card
