base q3/OSP

Okay I still can't connect to OSP servers for some reason, the maps load then I get kicked, and PB doesn't have a message for why.

Also, can someone please tell me how to make it easier to see enemies in base q3? Like the contrast of the whole game and stuff.. but not the contrast of my PC.

ok.

I looked at your prior post OSP

It would be nice to see what the console says
after you get kicked.

*I KNOW you've already looked*

But try this please:

When you go and try to connect to an OSP server
and get kicked.

DO NOT do anything else but this:
  • Pull down the console.
  • \condump error.txt <------( type this in console )
  • Then go into your OSP folder and find
    the error.txt file you created.
  • OPEN it and paste it in a post for us to read.
That's one suggestion. Just knowing what
you've already done in previous posts
This might help out in finding what's wrong.

Start the game from the command line with +set g_log condump.txt

Okay so I turned auto-downloading on, because that's what the last error.txt said to do.. (previously I had just had it turned on in vanilla Q3, not OSP). Now I get kicked just before it starts to download, and get THIS error.txt:

The solution I found for this was just to go to the console and type 'cl_allowdownload 1'

This lets the server send you the files it things are missing.

#1) to try my graphics settings, copy&paste all that code to a new file .cfg called something clever like "menkent.cfg" in your baseq3 dir. make a back-up copy of your q3config.cfg and but it somewhere safe like the desktop... just in case. then start up q3 type "/exec menkent.cfg" in the console and then load up a map (/map pro-q3dm6). if you want all your old settings back, you can just swap back in your back-up q3config.cfg or whatever.

#2) to find that random osp file (which 1.01 servers shouldn't have/need anyway), try google.

Foo, that only works if the server has sv_allowdownload set (which wasn't the case with this particular server).

Ermmm.. I looked at that link, downloaded all the files and saved them to my OSP directory, and they're all .zips. However! Next to the files I downloaded (the zips) are some files with the same name that aren't zipped. I have pak0, 1, and 2 of these files, but not pak3.. why not? I tried re-downloading, it didn't make a difference, and i still can't connect to the server cause i don't have pak3.

Servers don't even need that file, that is if the server admin deletes them from their directory.

You have read the console dumps and have stated you only needed
the zz-osp-pak3.pk3.

So don't go mixing things and downloading all of the files.
You only needed that one file. ;)

I went to google and typed in exactly that and came up with the
link I provided. I figured you would just get the one file you needed :D

Well what ever files you have in your OSP folder make sure they have
a .pk3 extension on them and you should have no problem.

i have a good solution - stop going to newbie servers where the admin hasn't bothered deleting 3 year-old osp files.

Okay! I got it to work by connecting to a server with auto-download turned on, and it downloaded from there, cause it wasn't working from that site for some reason.

And it's not a "newbie" server, its XS4ALL.

But now that you mention it, I don't suppose you could give me some more good OSP CTF servers could you?
