Let's hope Q4 lives up to it's predecessors.
funneh, i just wrote an article for a news site saying about the same thing :icon14:

i figure the closer it is to q3, the harder it'll be for it to really pick up as a competition platform because people new to the series will just get the shit raped out of them and go back to cs:s or whatever.

anyway, people still play q3... just not as many leagues/tourneys anymore.

thats a great point menkent - about noobs giving up, but on the bright side, there are plenty of pub servers where noobs can still get a decent game of q3, so I hope something similar happens with q4.
Time will tell.

the trick is to make the game fun for people, even if they suck at it.

Quake 3 isn't dead yet, but interest has been waning. IMO it's the best multiplayer game out there for competition. Problem is the players that started with Q1/QW, Q2, Q3 are getting older now and out of the game. Newer players are looking for better graphics and WW2 style games remain popular. Despite this, there are still a fair number of people who still play. The game is only as dead as people want it to be. Although personally I would love to keep playing Q3, I wouldnt mind a new game either. Quake 3 has been many a hardcore game player's bread and butter for a long time now, but I think we all look forward to a new era of those days with a much larger community, with that new feel and excitement associated with a new game.

Let's hope Q4 lives up to it's predecessors.
