I started getting artifacts with my Radeon 9700 (not surprisingly, since I've had this card for about 2 years).
I am now using a shitty Geforce 4 MX (PCI) that works without artifacts. I don't have another AGP card I can use.
How can I be sure that my motherboard or AGP slot isn't messed up? I might wanna buy a new Radeon 9x00 card for $99 or so.
How do I know if my motherboard or graphics card is screwed?

A faulty AGP slot would give you more diverce Effects rather then simple Artifacts.
have you updated the drivers? the CAt 5.7's Are known to heat up the cards and cause overheating ( the first signes are Artifacts )
try Cleaning off the card, installing it, and Making sure its cool ( try leaving the Side of the case off )then try againa and see if you get them.

Kingman, I posted in your thread before the Q3W database crash. I have the same problem with my o/c'd 9700 Pro, I restart and there will be all sorts of colors and lines on the screen. I don't have that problem with the in game artifacts, but one suggestion of mine would be to turn off fast writes in your BIOS and see if that helps. When DooM 3 came out I had to turn off fast writes to get more than 10 min of stability.
