ffs how difficult is this concept to grasp?
I didn't know there was such an option. But I'm not complaining that much, as I finished HL2 before it became a real problem

edit:
but how would that work with an online game like CS:S ?

Big fucking deal.
well, first of all, you're required to be online to use any steam product. not recommended, required.
secondly, it installs itself into your systray even though you're not using any steam product. like i really need another start menu which is also sending packets back n forth whilst just sitting there.

having to wait a minimum of 2 minutes before the game starts cause it has to "validate" again also makes no sense.
the times the steam server is down, you CANNOT play any of your games.

great stuff, indeed
all completely untrue. steam has an offline mode. i have dialup and have never had any of the issues you refer to. just go into your steam setup/prefs/properties/whatever and change to offline mode. it DOES however stick the client in your systray, but big deal - it's just another reason not to clutter your systray up with other crap

Or login ONCE, UPDATE, then while "online" on steam, unplug your connection.. itll default to offline mode until you TELL it to go to online mode..

Some people are just fucking whining babies.. CRY MORE NOOBS, ITS OK, LEARN TO PLAY!
[size=75][i]I once had a glass of milk.

It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.

I am now sick.

I dunno what's worse, complaining or complaining about complaining.

well, another approach you might want to try is: check out hl2 news sites like interlopers etc which tell you when an update is ready, get the update BEFORE you want to play, then you won't have to wait when you do. i mean, it's not like getting the latest patch for a game is a new radical thing. all steam does is make you get it in a timely manner, which given that everyone playing online will need probably need to be patched to the same level anyway makes some kind of sense

The latest Steam patches are really small. It dosen't take longer than a min. to download and apply, and you're off to play. There's probably 1 patch every 2 weeks or so.

as long as the steam exploit still works there is no reason for me to be concerned about prices for upcomming games and until i pay .01 cent im not alowed to complain about how shitty it is :)
