File Structure Test Failure

Post by DiscoDave »

So i've done a diagnostic test on my Seagate hard drive and it failed a File Structure Test. The windows install is only a couple of months old.

Here's what it wrote into the log file but it isn't that enlightening:

End results from Seagate's DiagATA/SCSI

File Structure Test Result:

Partition 1 (NTFS (200 GB) ) Result: Failed with critical Errors

The following errors were found while scanning the volume:
- One or more errors were found in the index

NOTE: Any report of possible errors in the file system tests are for
informational purposes only. We suggest you should consider testing with
the official file system diagnostic utilities for your operating system.
Seagate is not able to assist with troubleshooting or reviewing
file system test results.

What should I do?

do as it says and run windows scandisk and if that fails try it in safe mode.
safe mode
hit f8 before you see the windows logo and then select safe mode.

maybe even try your drive tester in safe mode

ah .. so did windows report any errors?
if not the problem may be that the bootdisk isn't compatible with the windows ?xp? NTSF formatted drives.
check for an update to the software

it repots errors when i run checkdisk, but when i run it with the /f parameter it doesn't seem to fix anything.

The bootdisk is compatible with NTFS and my drive. Its the latest version
