Question about random crashing...

Post by VoxProminence »

Ok, so everything on my PC is running fine, been playing Far Cry, Dawn of War, Painkiller, even the call of duty 2 demo ran great.

two games however, Age Of Empires 3 Demo, and Half-life 2 dont seem to want to work.

When i load them up, they get past the splash screen, then my computer just resets.

all my drivers are up to date.

running a Athlon 64 3200.
GeForce 6200
w/ a gig of ram.
XP sp2.

any help would be really appreciated.

Try editing the game configs directly and setting the game to a different resolution.

That's the only thing that springs out at me.

check out the HL2 forums for a similar problem.
sounds like crashes are game specific.
i was thinking it may be a heat issue or a hardware problem but those other games tax your system quite heavily too.

Hmm, well another link I can think of between the games is that I think both games use the Bloom effect.

Could you try an older version of your video drivers? And are you using the nVidia reference drivers, or your card manufacturer's own set?

i know, ive tried several, from the new beta, to the old manufacter and in between, and nothing.

however, i can get Hl2 to run in a window, then full screen it and it runs great, AoE3 still cant get running.
