Quake 3 Arena ported to Pocket PC

Post by crioux »

http://www.noctemware.com/q3ce.html

We thought it would be fun to do it, so we ported the recenly-GPL-released Quake 3 Arena from iD Software to Windows CE 4.2 for Pocket PC, as a test for our 'SpeedDemon' Windows CE profiler. Sure, the game still runs at like 5 FPS, but at least we know how to make it faster for future builds. Expect continuing development on this port. In the meantime, enjoy the 1.0 release!

No it's not. The source code has been released. You still need a legit copy of pak0.pk3 to play it of course.

To do it, why else? It's clearly not to play the game to pimp your Q3 Skillz... :icon22:

Why did the USA bother going to the moon? The scientific significance was not so high.

Perhaps, but the technology, the facilities, and economic prosperity se-rounding the moon project was significant. Plus it was a great symbol of why technology is important.

Right. Scale that down to a couple of programmers with an interest in handheld technology.

QED.

Hey. If you think the FPS is bad, wait until you see the ping time. I haven't been able to log in to any servers yet, but I can't possibly imagine playing the game over GPRS . It would be like playing over a 9600 baud dial-up connection.

As for the Axim, I don't have one, so I can't guarantee anything better than, well, bad. But maybe, just maybe, if it comes with a hardware accelerated version of libGLES_CM.dll, you might be able to swap it in and get a significant performance increase. Again, no promises until I can get my hands on a hardware accelerated unit to dev with. Shoot me email at contact@noctemware.com or whatever if you have any success at all.

Couldnt you put your time to something more useful like commiting suicide ?

meh......... My reasoning still stands, if you are going to do something make it worth the while. I mean its like a Jaguar Emulator, they all run like shit, nothing works ....... whats the point ?

Quake 3 running on a pocket PC is stupid, the screen is too small (cause railing someone on dm17's going to be easy :icon27: ) the power of pocket pc's are shit and as such run it at 2 fps or whatever, theres no multiplayer,

If he can get it going good for him, hes more talented than I am bothered to be, to try and get THIS game to work on that system is worse than getting it on Dreamcast.

This IS an ubre waste of time......

but hey good luck and all
