I'll just paste the discussion we had in the Twillight.Pictures/Shaolin Productions privatechannel. Fei, the author of gq3 was checking out the avidemo support, for moviemaking purposes:

timescale connect be changed in multiplayer

interesting, you can pull up a loading screen and click all the keys

its UT style, cant see the gun if you record with out it

how the fuck can you cap screenies with a netdemo
q4 is awesome and for competition yo ucan pass out demos and they play nicely
but might have to fraps it, or get a "tck hack"

for render demos
but i cant get it to capture netdemos
says not connected to server

So, basicly, the moviemaking community is facing some hardtimes ahead. Including myself, as I'm a member of TP.

Bad news :/
We need a defrag/recamming/movie mod! :D

Or maybe there is something we don't know yet about netdemos/play back?

recordDemo records a demo
recordNetDemo recordDemo start recording a network demo

playDemo plays back a demo
playNetDemo playback a network demo

I'd say probably using the wrong commands...personally...but I don't have the game to verify...just looking over the commands and vars listed here is all.

What's the difference between a demo and a netdemo? Is there difference in filesize, what resembles Q3demo.dm68 the most?

The demo_scale cvar should control netDemo playback speed.

Regular demos are render dumps of gameplay. Net demos just record user input and re-simulate the game based on that input.
