Yeah so even though the minimum req. are a 2.0 ghz? And all my other games I can run on high/maximum.

And the Call of Duty 2 demo runs excellent with all settings at max... I don't buy your answer to my problem.

The reason why you are getting bad fps is because of your CPU & your video card. Ati cards don't work that well with OpenGL/Id games, at least not as well ast Nvidia. Also 2.0Ghz is the bare minimum, 2.8 isn't that much better then 2.0Ghz.

Wait for newer drivers for your video card, maybe upgrade your cpu in the future.

800 mhz is a pretty big difference... I don't know how you can say 2.8ghz isn't enough when Doom3 and and the rest of my games run as smooth as butter.

I'm in the same boat as you I have 2.4Ghz and I get almost the exact same fps on resolution/settings. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the cpu.

When Quake3 first came out it had a similar issue. I had a P2 300Mhz, 64 Ram and a Voodo3, and it ran like shit.

I remember there being an issue with Q3 frame rates being lower with SP2, disabling DEP seemed to fix some of the problems…

Disable it thusly:

Open boot.ini (located in the root of disc C:\.)

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

should be changed to

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=AlwaysOff /fastdetect

restart

I don't get any difference but, it's worth a shot.
Worth a try, doesn't effect me at all.

But the thing is... Quake4 runs on the Doom3 engine.

F.E.A.R. runs better than Q4 for me.

No way the devs can tell me I should be getting the same fps on low as I do on high settings with a 2.8ghz p4, 1 gig ram, x850 pro 256mb.

yes, if your CPU is the limiting factor, you will

As have been said before, Q4 MP is very heavy on the CPU

Quake4 is using a modified version of Doom3, Doom3 has very small environments while Quake4 is slightly more open. Take a look at the minimum requirements for each game.

Doom3
A 1.5 GHz Intel Pentium 4 chip or AMD Athlon 1500
384 MB RAM
An nVidia GeForce 3 graphics card or better; or an ATI Technologies 8500 or better

Quake4
Pentium 4 2.0 GHz or Athlon XP 2000+ Processor
512MB RAM
Hardware Accelerated video card and the latest drivers:
o ATI Radeon 9700
o ATI Radeon X300 Series
o ATI Radeon X550 Series
o ATI Radeon X600 Series
o ATI Radeon X700 Series
o ATI Radeon X800 Series
o ATI Radeon X850 Series
o NVIDIA GeForce 3/Ti Series
o NVIDIA GeForce 4/Ti Series
o NVIDIA GeForce FX Series
o NVIDIA GeForce 6 Series
o NVIDIA GeForce 7 Series

Also Quake4 runs much better on Nvidia cards, it's the same with Doom3. Wait for 5.11, they are supposed to give better OpenGL support.

I have to say 1 thing, I find that single player runs fine for me. But multiplayer is pretty unplayable. They didn't fix the netcode, you really need lower then 100 ping to play the game and a solid system to run it. I hope there is a fix but I doubt it, it's too bad because Quake3 had really good netcode imo.

Just ram a timedemo on Ultra and I get 34 fps.... while at high I get 37 fps, and at low I get 38 fps? What do you think now?

If you got 60 fps in low and 30 in high on the same resolution then I would say it's your video card. But since you are getting very similar fps (like me) then I think it has to do with your CPU.

Try benching all resolutions 640, 800, 1024. See if you get any big jumps in fps.

Also don't foget Ultra is for 512Mb video cards, no one should really be running it.

can someone post a cfg or post the commands, but only the commands for video tweaking, or anything that make the game more smooth.i only find complete configs.cgf . then i must discover whats the videos commands, and whats the action commands. then i need rebuild the cfg. i would like a list with the video commands, then ill can test 1 by 1, and the nearest i found, was a d3 tweak hosted by guru3d i think.

I timedemo'd the Ultra settings to show you no matter what settings I put it on the fps change is minimal. I can crank up AA and see no decrease in fps. Btw... the low time demo is at 640x480 while the high time demo is at 1024x768 and I see a 1 fps difference.

Like I said it's a CPU issue.

This is what I hate about q4, it's barley using any of my ram but all my cpu. So I get the same fps on most settings.

ATI's card are great... the X850 PRO stands up to any GEFORCE 6800 GT. And the new ATI cards are just as good as the 7800's.

I see a lot of nvidia fanboys.

Look at the benchmarks man and tell me different... the only game that the 6800 GT'S get better fps on are Doom3/ Quake4.

The low FPS is about a big BUG in the codings of Quake 4 !
I don't know if its in SP too but definetly in MP!
id-software made a big mistake in the pre-cache area, thegame loads the map but it does not cache textures, models, items and projectiles so the computer must load this while gaming.
The second mistake is that the Memory usage is always at 0!

I tryed hundreds of commands in com_, r_, g_, cm_ a.s.o. are not legal in MP-MODE so i guess its not a config problem, rather its a coding problem. I think i will report this to id- or ravensoftware and hope they will fix it.
Was there a similar problem with doom3-MP ?
