Q4 keeps requesting my key

This happens more often if the game crashes, but sometimes even when I log out properly. I load Q4 back up and it either requests my CD key again or says my CD key is in use. I have a perfectly legit copy of Q4 and no one else has my key. Any idea as to why this may be happening?

I believe Q3 allows for 2 instances of your CDKEY to make transitions between server hopping easier. I assume it works the same for Q4, so you should still be able to connect to another server.

You could always try write protecting your CDKEY and see if that helps.

As Brisk says, Q3 allowed 2 instances at once for this very reason.

I think the Q4 key servers have a limit of 1 right now, and this is why you're seeing the error.

Make sure you set the cdkey file (in quakefolder\baseq4\) to read-only in windows which will prevent Q4 wiping the key every time it gets in a strop.

To be honest, they need to sort the key server out. It takes the piss that the file gets wiped every time it detects your key is already in use. Especially since it happens more for the wrong reasons than for people trying to rip off the game.

Setting the key file to read only has stopped it requested re-entry of the key at least. Thank you.
