help, graphics card !

i have just bought quake 4 and quake 3 worked fine on my computer. quake 4 doesnt tho :( when i play it is all patchy and slow, i think it is something to do with a 3d hardware accelerator. i dont have a very good one, im looking for a cheep, good begginers piece of hardware and i live in england, any of you know any good websites ?

Well you aint gonna get much for that...
You really need be spending about 100 of your finest beans to get summat that can play Quake 4 tidy

I suggest you post all your computer specs, if you have a bad cpu then a graphics card won't help much.

Just to be sure right click on your desktop, go to properties. Click the Settings tab, click Advanced button. Click Adapter tab, tell us what you see.

I thik u will want to get a PCI-Express gfx card, not AGP.

That computer is pretty decent, however the FX5500 is not a very good card and it won't run quake4 all that well.

I suggest you look into a 6600 GT.

This is an old benchmark but take a look how bad it is, even a 9600 destroys it and a 9600 is technically not supported by Quake4.

I'm not in the UK, so I wouldn't know. Perhaps someone knows a good online store for the UK.

A good way to easily check what you have is to go to:

Start.../run.../type dxdiag (this is Direct X diagnostic) and look at the details that pop up. If you want graphic card specific info, then click display.
