These screenshots are equivalent to about picmip 5.
The screens have come out MUCH darker than in the game,
does anyone know how to fix that?
These graphics make it a bit easier to see
the enemy with these blurred surfaces, and
this is how it looks for me in Q3 as well.

Make an autoexec.cfg, and then add these lines.
If you don't like it, simply get rid of the autoexec
and it should return to your previous config.
I'm sure this will give a few more fps as well.

Hehe, well, I played this config against you last night,
so my excuses are that I had no sleep,
my eyes were fuxored, and still no enemy colors.
But yea, it definitely helped for sure. Btw, that dm17 match we had. I blame azer! :icon33:
He told me to turn off the
10 frag limit earlier. So consequently, when I got
to 10 frags, I was thinking great, I won, having
forgotten it was unlmited frags. :olo:

well you got nasty all of the sudden on dm17. i was playing while talking to the missus and suddenly i really had to pay attention :D i remember i was thinking "wtf where did he get all these skills all of a sudden" :p

cant remember the end score though.. i know i had the winning frag in the last 3 seconds or so :D ggs indeed \o/

It was a good game. I lost a few frags from falling. I believe the final score was 11-10 to you? Well, I've played a lot of dm17, hence it made things easier. :icon25:

Making the textures look like that doesn't really give you more fps, at least for me I've tested it and it doesn't seem to effect anything.

I just started using UpsetChaps' highest fps one and it seems to work the best.

Also I would suggest you use image_cache commands based on how much ram you have and not just copy and paste someone elses cfg.

well some folks like the smooth walls . Myself i have enuff to run @ 60fps 1280x1024 ultra settings but i like the smooth wallz (OPC owner ;) )

Use r_gamma 3 if it's too dark. I use r_gamma 2 normally, except on The lost fleet map.

I think the most magical cvars for crappening the view and getting decent fps on slow cards are image_downSizeLimit, image_downSizeBumpLimit and image_downSizeSpecularLimit. upsetchaps had those for the slowest cards at 256 and 64 or sth. some people post screenshots that have them at 16 and 2 or something (screenshots that coincidentally look the worst). those lowest values are a ticket to a good fps coupled with 640x480.

My little laptop with radeon x600 is happy running quake4 at 63fps with those now (and looking like quake3 in 1999, but anyway).

For image_downSizeLimit, image_downSizeBumpLimit and image_downSizeSpecularLimit. I don't think it makes a difference unless you have a 64mb video card, and even then you will have enough memmory to store the textures on low quality. Only use it if you want to be able to see more clear, but then the skins and everything else look bland and isn't really that easy to see.

Heh reef, I know, it's bizarre. But that only happens in certain areas and of course, with an ugly config.

shiznit, I tried quite a few timedemos using syns ggl demo, with your config and mine. Nothing in it man. My score averaged 33.60fps on low quality, 800x600, everything off except specular. Athlon 2000+, 9800pro, 768ram, and I adjusted the cache commands according to my specs. Sometimes I was less than half a frame ahead of you and sometimes vice versa. I started my server and compared both configs by standing in the same spots for both. Was identical.

There may be parameters in your autoexec that I could add to mine and increase my fps that way. I'll have to check it all out.

shiznit, these graphics are pretty extreme. Did you just change:

image_downSizeLimit,
image_downSizeBumpLimit
image_downSizeSpecularLimit

to get these graphics? What values did you use for each one?

I think the Upset Chaps did a great job with their configs, the suggested ones, as well as the descriptions. It's been super helpful to me in getting my config going!

I wont be playing with those graphics unless the player models stayed sharp against them. The thing about making graphics shitty is to get an advantage by taking away distractions of the scenery. There's no point in playing Q1, Q2 or Q3 because the community is gonna be much larger in Q4. :icon26:
