Wtf
Wtf
Someone told me ill get better at 1v1 by playing it more often. But every game i play i get spawn raped and spawn railed every 2 seconds of the fight and can barely hit or see the guy am fighting. Should i be looking for an easier server if this keeps happening? cuz it sure as shit aint helpin me. It gets to the point where I always end up flipping out and cussing at everyone on the server and making myself look stupid. But does anyone have any suggestions of what i should do?
Were you born a fat slimy scumbag puke piece of shit or did you have to work on it!?

Well i tried 1v1 for about a year on ut2004 and went through this same shit. Got owned every single game. not just by pros or anything either just by avg players that get lucky shots. I played a bit of quake 3 arena but all the 1v1 servers were instagib, and those were a waste of time because id get spawnrailed 20 consecutive times and lose tha match without taking a step because everyone memorized the spawn points.

Every owns me so bad i dont even have a chance to learn i just lose 20-0 and get pissed off and leave the server. TDM i can never get a wep. And i refuse to play dm servers because i hate getting shot in the back and ppl stealing my frags all the time >.<

Hehe. :icon30: Quake 3 would be a good place to start. There are the Demon UK TDM servers in 1.30 and FFA and CTF servers in 1.31 (you just need the 1.30 and 1.31 quake3.exe versions). The skill level is relatively low there and i like to play there for some fun.
I used to play a lot of TDM at those 1.30 servers and it's more like FFA than TDM (not much teamwork) but it's less demanding than 1v1 or FFA. Another good way to build up skill is to have a duel partner that is about as good as you are (preferably a bit better).
You need to be aware of the techniques of aiming for different weapons and basic movement before you can expect to get reasonable amounts of frags in duels against people that have played for a year or more. There is at least one useful thread in the Q3 Discussion forum from a guy like you that played UT2k4 but wanted to learn Q3.
The most important thing to be able to build up skill is to find an environment where you can play and have fun, so you stay motivated.
The Dog Freeze [1] and [2] (1.32 servers) are nice Freeze Tag servers where you can get away with being noob. Might be worth to check those servers (enable cl_allowdownload to download the mod).

I personally think you should play more DM, TDM or CTF for now as well as 1v1. Get a feel for the speed of it, get used to just aiming, build some confidence from at least getting some frags. I'm shit at 1v1, but in Q3, ffa helped me enormously for aiming. Before I did ffa, people kept telling me to duel. It didn't do me much good because I kept getting owned, and so I didn't get a chance to get any sort of aim together because I was on the floor before I had a chance. And it does destroy your confidence and will to go on after a while. After ffa, it at least gave me a better sense of the weapons, which ones to use when, aim, spawn points, improving strafejumping as basic tools for 1v1.
Well my movement and item whoring is somewhat decent i think. I strafe jump to the good armors or mh as fast as i can. The thing that really drags me down is my aim. Even when im spamming a hyperblaster or rl and i could sware im hitting them but i dont hear any hitsounds and they just mow me down in 3 seconds flat. Earlier today i actually missed a shot at point blank range with a shotgun somehow. Dont ask how.......i dont even know =/. And ffa just irritates me

Same shit happens to me in Q4 and I even ping around 40. I agree that it is annoying.Krazy_K wrote:Well my movement and item whoring is somewhat decent i think. makes everything brighter. you may need something a bit less, like 1.6-1.8
btw, 1v1 is mostly played by the top players, so finding an average player on those servers is pretty unlikely, 95% of them will be the top 15% or so of players. I suggest you find some ppl of your own skill level, and then ask them to play you 1v1 so you can work on your item timing and aim etc.

I'm not sure if you already know this, but its the first thing that came to my mind when you talked about difficulty in aiming.
...try to lower the sensitivity of your weapon. Lowered sense will help you steady your aim. The downside is that it is harder to turn.
just drop the console and type "sensitivity" then hit the "enter" key. That should tell you what your current sensitivity is. Once you know that, try to lower it so that your cross-hair is steadier when you aim.
another part of good aim is just simple prediction, once you know a map enough to predict were your opponent will be at any given moment, you'll find your aim improves.
Also you might want to find a person to duel with regularly that is on a similar skill level. I think honestly that is a better way to learn a map than to just go in and get tooled repeatedly.
If your eastcoast USA I'd be into going a few rounds since I suck at Q3 duels and I havent even had a chance to play any q4 1v1 games since I'm more of a CTF player.
