Depends on the environment its being used in. For home/small biz use I'd agree but for midrange business MSSQL is far, far better than some of their competitors (like Sybase for example which I regrettably have to support).

MySQL is ISAM files, which isn't really a database. It's more like ancient history.

That hasn't been true for a couple years now. I has real transactional support and tables now.

i dont' know anything about SQL or what's this > that. the reason i asked was because my friend's on 56k and wanted to get back into it for a possible future job switch and asked if i could download ms SQL for him.

If he's talking about the full SQL product, then you're going to have to do some warezing to find that.
SQL owns for large amounts of data and users.

i downloaded 2000 sql enterprise edition just in case that 40mb file glossy linked me isn't what he needs

enterprise edition is probably a little robust for his needs, but it will give him all the options that are available.
