Quake 4 is set right after the evil one is taken out by the lone marine.
I would pressume only a couple of days or maybe at most a month after it.
Why then is every weapon different and every effect for the weapons different ?

Ahh, they have to upgrade with the times. Also, different types of units may have different loads of weapons, so that doesn't bug me any.
Now off hand, I do think they could have at least tried to keep a little of the architectural style. Granted, you'd give it more detail and such, but Q2 had a definite style to it. Q4 could have tried to incorporate that some.
