coming to an end

Post by RooKie »

seems pretty much like doomsday to me now that Q4 is out (have that too so nothing to worry about really). I have been lucky to find a server with 1 human player on, most of rest are all bots. shame really, lets see what the next generation brings to us over the coming months :)
Logging off Q3 forever, never to install again :( ...........................

naah I doubt it'll be like that. Don't limit yourself to vanilla FFA or TDM servers, look for servers that run OSP, Rocket Arena or even Freeze Tag. I'm sure there are plenty of players left.

years and years ago, people were chanting the death knell for quake3 everytime cpl or quakecon came around

"This is the last tournament that will feature quake3, and the community will move on"

fucking lol

people are still playing quake1 and quake2.

if you're concerned about vq3 - yea vq3 tends to attract new players who haven't taken it upon themselves to download the quality mods like osp, ra3, 3wave, cpma etc.

i find there are always about 4/5 servers on Cpma that are always full or near full, yet the rest stay fairly empty, same for Osp/CA.
A lot of people still play because they got q4, either couldn't run it, or didn't like it and so went back to q3.

I doubt we'll be saying goodbye to q3 for a long time ;)

If you're in Europe, check out these Freeze Tag servers:

195.11.243.34:27960 (Freeze Tag)
195.11.243.34:27961 (Freeze Tag)
82.211.37.180:27968 (OSP Freeze Tag)

They're usually pretty well loaded.

Or you could just ask for a game here, 3 times out of 7 the server will be full in minutes

that made me sad :(

I still play Q3 because there's things about it that aren't as good in Q4 ( at least for now), but there's things in Q4 that are new and fun. Sometimes though I wonder why I'm playing Q4, because I have a hard time seeing the enemy and getting a decent framerate for what is tbh, exactly the same game as Q3. Yet in Q3, I don't have those problems so why give myself a hard time. But it'll get better. Just remember not to throw a grenade through the teleport or jumpad in Q3, it won't work!

I'll still be playing quake3 for the time being. I found the frame rates in q4 MP make it unplayable, at least until I can completely upgrade my system. And I'm not going out and doing that until at least January.

After the initial hype of Q4 is over, i think some people will decide to stay with Q3 (especially if they play some mod full-time). Q3 will stay alive, but mostly true Q3 fanatics and people that can't run Q4 will keep playing it. I don't have any trouble finding servers btw; it's just not so easy to know how to run multiple versions of Q3 at the same time -- there are still many servers in 1.30 and 1.31 with a level of skill that's very suitable for beginners players. You can find those servers easily with ASE, but you'll need the 1.30 and 1.32 quake3.exe versions (renamed and linked to favorites folders in ASE) or a Q3 version switcher. There should a stickied article about "How can i play previous versions of Q3" with an explanation how to play on 1.30/1.31 servers.

I played both Quake 4 and Quake 3 (Rocket Arena) last night. The evening is long enough for both :)
