Game crashes when joining server

Post by -]Rx[-Harley »

Hello,

Has anyone had this happen? You join a server and either your screen goes blank or it looks like the map has loaded and then your computer freezes. I thought it was just me, but when I asked others to join the same server, the same thing happened to them. Any thoughts?

So it happens on a specific server but not all of them?

It's happened on 2 or 3 specific servers. It may be that the 3 servers were all "stuck" on the same map. I should have payed more attention.

Same thing happened to me a few times but do not know what exactly is causing it.

The map will load them BAM! Black screen then I'm back to desktop with computer frozen.

I had this problem just after Q4 came out. When the screen turns black, the console is still accessible (CTRL + ALT + tilde) although reconnecting / disconnecting does not fix the issue.

I already had ZoneAlarm (firewall) configured to allow Q4 full inbound / outbound access but still had the issue.

In my case, the issue was firewall related. To test this, try (temporarily) shutting down your firewall and reconnecting.

So what firewall are you both using?

It happened to me last night and I got a message saying that the server had files that I didnt and that autodownload was not configured or something like that.

Just dumped me to the desktop. I fired up the game again and connected to a server no problem... :icon28:

I do run ZA, but the other people who tried connecting to the mentioned servers do not. In addition, it was only 3 specific servers that caused me problems. I have no issues with other servers to which I connect.

Right after you have that trouble, look at the ZA logs ( lower left of the ZA window) and see what's logged. You might find an answer there.
